Greys E-Learning Project Success

The Greys E-Learning project has just won the 21 Century Learning Alliance Award for Innovation. Congratulations to them from all at E2BN.

The Greys House Education Centre in Bedfordshire exists both virtually and physically in for locations (including a specialist hospital and a Young Mother’s Unit). The centre supports excluded learners as well as those unable to attend school through pregnancy, long term illness or admission to hospital. Its Virtual School e-learning provision is also available to all 17 Bedfordshire Upper Schools providing 24/7 access.

The centre has worked hard to provide engaging resources providing access to high quality learning whereever a student is and whenever they want to learn. Key to the initiative is personalising support for each learner to meet their individual needs.  Access is also provided to multi-agency partners and peer mentors.

Students have responded well to having an online learning space, tools and resources and access to targeted assessment via resources matched to where they are as individuals. One student commented “Sometimes I am really bored late at night and go on my e-learning”.
The intention of the VLE is to provide access to all Greys Education Centre Students, re-engage disaffected Key Stage 4 pupils with learning and prevent potential exclusions through targeted and personalised learning programmes. Working closely with schools has resulted in zero permanent exclusions for these students in the academic year 2006-7.

The award was presented to the Greys E-Learning Project at the NCSL National Conference in Birmingham. They are thrilled with the award. To find out more see the attached PDF outlining the learning journey.
