Love British Food was founded by the organisers of British Food Fortnight to provide consumers, retailers, caterers and schools with a definitive one-stop-shop of advice on everything they need to know about the diverse and delicious range of food that Britain produces. It is taking place 19th September - 4th October 2009.

The education sector shows tremendous interest in this event. Nutrition and food education in schools is now something of great importance. If young people are not taught about the nutritional benefits of eating fresh produce and how to cook it, the consumer demand necessary to support specialist producers, retailers and caterers will not be there in the future. Education is therefore the most important area to achieve a lasting food revolution in the UK.

There have been many achievements in the education sector including the fact that 35,000 schools are provided annually with information including food and cookery activities within the curriculum as part of the Fortnight's activities.

British Food Fortnight is an established event on the school calendar - all schools are invited to hold special food lessons during the event.

The response from teachers has been tremendous and many events have been organised. These include children enjoying talks by top chefs, local butchers and producers, fruit and vegetable tastings, visits to farms and local allotments and learning how to make their own healthy snacks and meals. They have been hosting mini farmers markets in school halls, holding Teddy Bear's Picnics and Mad-Hatters Tea Parties using local produce. There has even been a special British Food Fortnight edition of Blue Peter.
